Five Creative Classroom Projects Vie for 2013 “Inauguration” in WeAreTeachers and Pearson Program Designed to Immerse Students in Civics Education, Build Collaboration and Problem-Solving Skills 

NEW YORK – Nov. 1, 2012 – As the 2012 Presidential Election campaign draws to a close, a new crop of candidates has emerged from five elementary schools around the country – finalists in the “If We Were President” contest, sponsored by Pearson and WeAreTeachers. Now the public has until November 9 to view these stellar projects at http://www.weareteachers.com/grants-contests/grants/pearson-election-contest/vote/ and cast their votes for the class that they think has the creativity and vision to lead the nation. The winner will be announced on Nov. 16 at the National Council for the Social Studies Conference in Seattle.

In recognition of America Recycles Day, November 15, FundingFactory is sponsoring the “Care2Collect Just 1” campaign to help schools, nonprofits and businesses in protecting the environment while supporting their local communities. Participants are encouraged to recycle one e-waste item through FundingFactory, and donate one non-perishable food item to their local food bank.  For every 100 recyclable items collected, FundingFactory will donate $1 to Second Harvest Food Bank with the goal of raising more than $3,000. Additionally, the free recycling fundraiser aims to raise awareness for America Recycles Day by collecting and recycling more than 300,000 recyclables by the end of November.
