As a firm believer in a good old-fashioned makeover now and again, Shmoop is giving its AP Biology Guide a new look. Shmoop’s Guide is now upgraded to include the new College Board AP format to be implemented in the 2012-2013 school year. In addition, the Guide places a strong focus on the “Four Big Ideas of Biology,” and includes two lab sections for each “big idea” to help students increase the depth of their understanding. Ballard & Tighe, Publishers, has completed beta testing of its new educational video game, Word Raider: Escape. Evaluation of the academic vocabulary game in U.S. and international schools demonstrated a boost in language acquisition among students, helping to close the achievement gap. The game, for students in grades 2-5, was shown to engage students while enabling deeper learning and vocabulary retention. Nearly 1,000 students participated in the beta test that took place in October.

The induction was held during a ceremony at the McGraw Hill Conference Center in New York on Nov. 29. The educational publishing industry's highest individual honor, the AEP Hall of Fame recognizes those who have dedicated their careers to the advancement of educational resources and the industry that develops and supports them. “Karen is not just an industry visionary – she’s an operational whiz. She engenders the greatest loyalty among the people she works with, and the members she serves," said Ken Wasch, president at SIIA.
