Students and School Awarded iPad, Interactive Whiteboard Among Other Prizes
MINNEAPOLIS (Sept. 6, 2012) – Capstone Digital, developer of personalized learning environments for students, announces the winners of the 2012 Summer Reading Olympics. More than 35,000 students and over 1,450 schools participated in this year’s program, which surpassed 1 million books read overall. Designed to support students’ reading development over the summer break, the program challenged students to read as much as possible from June 1 to Aug. 15. All schools using myON™ reader, the personalized literacy environment that provides access to the largest integrated library of digital books with multimedia supports, were invited to participate in the inaugural Summer Reading Olympics.
The top three students and school that spent the most time reading are:
- Gold Medal: Hillary Q., second grade student from Orange County Public Schools’ Waterbridge Elementary School in Florida. Hillary read 399 hours (more than 16 days) to earn an iPad.
- Silver Medal: Nikhil M., fifth grade student from Hillsborough County Public Schools‘ Turner Elementary School in Florida. Nikhil read 257 hours (nearly 11 days) to earn a Kindle Fire.
- Bronze Medal: Paulwin M., fifth grade student from Hillsborough County Public Schools‘ Heritage Elementary School in Florida. Paulwin read 177 hours (more than seven days) to earn an iPod touch.
- Winning School: Woodburn School District’s Nellie Muir Elementary School in Oregon. Students at the school read the most books to earn an interactive whiteboard from Polyvision.
- More than 26,000 students will receive a 2012 Summer Reading Olympic Medal of Honor for reading 10 or more books during the summer.
