FundingFactory and Scholastic Help Schools Turn Trash into Cash

Educators can enter the “Go Green” Sweepstakes for a chance to win $5,000, which can be used for their school’s sustainability efforts

ERIE, Pa. (Nov. 8, 2012)— Research shows that “green” schools can reduce the $6 to $8 billion spent annually on energy by as much as 25 percent, according to the Center for Green Schools. To raise awareness about the importance of recycling e-waste and implementing “green” school initiatives, FundingFactory, together with Scholastic, the global children’s publishing, education and media company, have launched a new green initiative, which includes the “Go Green” Sweepstakes.*
To kick off FundingFactory’s “green” initiative, educators will have a chance to win $5,000, which they can use to improve their school’s environmental sustainability efforts or for other initiatives. From now until March 1, 2013, educators can visit http://scholastic.com/fundingfactory and explain how they would use the money to support eco-friendly programs and practices at their school.

FundingFactory, a 100-percent free fundraising-by-recycling program, enables participants to exchange e-waste for cash or points redeemable for new technology and other products. Educators can visit the “Go Green” Sweepstakes website to learn more about the importance of recycling, and discover ways to build community support for their school’s recycling fundraiser.

“The FundingFactory program helps schools all over the country in reducing e-waste and preventing it from being landfilled,” said Sean Michaels, president of FundingFactory. “With the help of Scholastic, we are able to offer educators the opportunity to create a school-wide sustainability initiative and share their success with others.”

The “Go Green” Sweepstakes winner will be announced in March 2013. To learn more about the Sweepstakes or the FundingFactory program, visit FundingFactory.com, Facebook.com/FundingFactory and YouTube.com/FundingFactory
