Association of Educational Service Agencies Partners With WIN Learning’s Personalized Career Readiness System

Kingston, TN  - July 8, 2013WIN Learning, a national leader in career readiness initiatives with more than 10 million learners worldwide, today announced it has entered into an agreement with the Association of Educational Service Agencies (AESA) to be a national partner and sponsor.  AESA is a professional organization serving educational service agencies (ESAs) - public entities created by state statute to provide educational support programs and services to local schools and school districts within a given geographic area - in nearly all 50 states. An invaluable resource to ESAs, AESA provides legislative and policy input, leadership, educational and administrative services to member Agencies in the latter’s efforts to improve student performance.

“Forty percent of businesses have positions open for six months or longer because they can’t find suitable applicants.  Yet, for a variety of reasons, the educational process doesn’t adequately address employers’ needs and students graduate from high school without the basic foundational skills to succeed in the workplace,” said Lee Warne, executive director of AESA.  “WIN Learning’s integrated approach to career and college readiness has been used with great success by several school districts and regional Agencies.  AESA sees quite clearly the need for schools to focus more on career readiness, so this partnership will help provide them with the proven, valued resources that will make that happen.”

One such example is in Kentucky where WIN Learning partners with the Kentucky Valley Educational Cooperative (KVEC) and the Green River Regional Educational Cooperative (GRREC) to provide programs that promote career exploration, individual career pathways preparation, foundational skills training, and college readiness, to some 42,000 students in grades 8-12.

“We are poised and ready to meet the future where it matters most, in the classrooms where our students are preparing for their life after high school,” said Dessie Bowling, Ed.D., associate director of KVEC.  “And with WIN Learning’s personalized career readiness system in place, we can now offer our students a way to see the connection between what’s happening in the classrooms and in their impending futures.  We feel confident that when they can see the relevance between the two, we will see greater commitment to classroom activities, increased motivation to stay in school, and true readiness for success following graduation.”

WIN Learning’s web-based personalized Career Readiness System is a series of standards-aligned contextual learning modules that help students understand and prepare for the realties of college and the workplace through personalized project-based learning and career exploration.  With the data-rich career exploration system WIN Strategic Compass®, students can analyze current and projected labor market data to reveal career pathways.  The program’s Initial Skills Review™ measures individual career readiness and skill development gaps, which leads to the WIN Career Readiness® Courseware, offering direct, contextual instruction through applied academics for workplace skill mastery.

The system also includes the recently launched WIN Soft Skills Series®, a first-of-its-kind program which builds skills mastery around the behavioral, attitudinal, social, and readiness skills employers and post-secondary programs demand.  As the only web-based soft skills curriculum on the market today, WIN Soft Skills provides schools with an exclusive curricular framework to teach their middle and high school students highly sought after foundational behaviors such as conveying professionalism, communicating effectively, promoting teamwork and collaboration, thinking critically and solving problems.  All attitudinal skills addressed in the courseware are revealed within the context of the workplace, to provide relevancy to the learning experience.

“Education Service Agencies are one of the most valuable resources available to school districts today, especially in these times of severe budget cuts. By providing a national voice for ESAs, professional growth opportunities, technical assistance, research, and access to high quality products and services, AESA supports and strengthens regional ESAs which in turn help all our schools promote better learning,” Joseph Goins, executive vice president of WIN Learning.  “To that end, this alliance represents a significant step in providing Education Service Agencies easy access to up-to-the-minute career and job analysis data to inform pathways, a universal screener to assess foundational skills, and instructional courseware to improve proficiency and close skill gaps. We applaud AESA for its foresight in and vision in helping schools address this critical need.”
