Washington, D.C. (April 19, 2012) – The5th Annual Flipped Conferenceis scheduled for June 18-20 in Chicago. More than 300 emerging and experienced “flippers” will gather to discuss, create and post video lectures for their flipped classrooms during the event, to be held atTribeca Flashpoint Academy,28 North Clark Street.
Flipped learning happens when a teacher’s lesson is delivered outside traditional class time, via a video students watch on their own as homework. Class time is used for active problem solving by students, and for one-to-one or small group tutoring with the teacher. Students may watch the short lectures as many times as they wish to grasp the content, and then come to class ready to jump into the lesson, answer questions, work on collaborative projects, and explore the content further. Teachers are embracing flipped learning in elementary and secondary schools for all subject areas.
High school science teachers and flipped classroom pioneers Jonathan Bergmann and Aaron Sams will keynote the Flipped Conference, which includes 24 hands-on sessions. Their book,Flip Your Classroom: Reach Every Student in Every Class Every Day,to be published in June by ISTE Press, will be available to Flipped Conference attendees.
The registration fee is $350 prior to May 1, $400 after May 1, and $500 on site. Registration is limited to 300 attendees. Those unable to attend the live event may participate in the virtual conference for $97. The pre-conference workshop on Monday, June 18, will focus on the software and hardware needed to create individual online lectures. Registration for the pre-conference session is $125.
Flipped Conference sponsors include JDL Horizon’s EduVision, TechSmith, Tribeca Flashpoint Academy, MentorMob, Schoolwires, and Sophia Learning.
