ISTE Opens Call for Nominations for 2014 Awards Honoring Individuals for Leadership in Learning and Teaching in the Digital Age

Deadline for Nominations for Nine Awards is February 28 

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Dec. 12, 2013 – Today the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE®) opened nominations for its 2014 awards honoring exceptional educators and leaders who are leading the way in leveraging technology to transform education. Each year ISTE’s awards recognize individuals whose exemplary work provides a model for learning, teaching and leading in the digital age.

 
Nominations are now open for:
 

§ Outstanding Leader Award- This honor, which goes to a leader outside of the classroom, recognizes outstanding achievement and leadership in implementing technology to improve education.

§ Outstanding Teacher Award- This award recognizes and honors one teacher who has demonstrated outstanding achievement in and understanding of educational technology implementation, who is passionate about teaching, and who has examples of successful lessons.

§ Outstanding Young Educator Award- This award honors an educator under the age of 35, for demonstrating vision, innovation and action and using technology to improve learning and teaching.

§ Sylvia Charp Award for District Innovation in Technology- Honoring Dr. Sylvia Charp, the founding editor of “THE Journal,” this award honors innovation and equitable and appropriate technology use for all students in a school system with the goal of increasing learning opportunities and improving achievement.

§ Public Policy Advocate Award- This award recognizes an outstanding and enthusiastic individual for efforts during the past calendar year in advocating for education technology policy at the local, state, regional and/or international level.

§ Kay L. Bitter Vision Award- Given in memory of Kay L. Bitter, an early childhood educator for more than 20 years, this award is presented to a PK–2 educator whose work has had a significant positive impact on the use of technology in education.

§ SIGOL (ISTE’s online learning special interest group) Online Learning Award- This award acknowledges creative teachers for their pioneering use of telecommunication networks to provide innovative learning opportunities for K–16 students.

§ SIGLIB (ISTE’s special interest group for librarians) Technology Innovation Award- ISTE presents this award to two teams consisting of a school librarian and collaborating teacher, from one primary school or its equivalent and one secondary school or its equivalent, each year. The nominated teams have planned a collaborative project involving technology, received support from administration, and successfully executed the project with supportive data and evidence for others to replicate the project.

§ SIGTE (ISTE’sspecial interest group for teacher educators) Award for Excellence in Teacher Education- Honors outstanding teacher educators who advance the field, demonstrate vision and innovation, and improve learning and teaching.

 

All honorees receive complimentary registration for ISTE 2014 in Atlanta, a one-year standard ISTE membership and other prizes specific to each award.

ISTE award nominations are reviewed by a committee off ISTE members, staff and/or board members. The deadline for submitting nominations is Feb. 28, 2014. Award recipients are announced in April.
