Free, Research-Based, Standards Aligned Curriculum Tops Highly Competitive Category, Best Reading Instructional Solution

NEW YORK – May 14, 2014 – The nonprofit ReadWorks is the winner of the ed-tech industry’s top honor – the Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA) CODiE Award. Named 2014’s Best Reading/ELL Instructional Solution for Education, the research-based, proven, state and Common Core-aligned reading comprehension curriculum is used by more than 700,000 educators in all 50 states.

“ReadWorks’ widespread adoption by K-8 teachers is illustrative of the critical need for research-based high quality curriculum to support teachers and build reading comprehension,” said David Ciulla, executive director, ReadWorks. “We are honored to be recognized by the SIIA membership in this important and competitive category and we hope that this recognition will help even more teachers improve their practice and support the academic achievement of their students.”

Established in 1986, the CODiE Awards honor outstanding achievement across the software, digital information and education technology industries. This year, nominated ed-tech products underwent an intensive review by educator judges from around the nation, and the finalists were selected by SIIA members.

ReadWorks provides research-based K-8 curriculum and guidance in reading comprehension directly to teachers online, for free, to be shared broadly. Its mission is to improve teacher effectiveness in teaching reading comprehension to increase student achievement and close the achievement gap.

ReadWorks is based on the highest quality research in reading comprehension and developed in concert with a team of Academic Advisors who are among the world’s leading researchers and practitioners in research-based reading instruction. ReadWorks currently provides a full range of reading comprehension lessons and units and more than 2,000 authentic informational and literary passages and, related curriculum all aligned to rigorous state standards and the Common Core.
