Students taking online courses with Florida Virtual School (FLVS) now will have access to text-to-speech in courses through a new partnership with Texthelp Systems, provider of literacy support software solutions. Under the partnership, FLVS courses will be updated to include a toolbar with read aloud functionality, as well as study skills tools, a dictionary, English to Spanish translation, and a research tool for conducting web searches on any selected word.

Students can click on a sentence to hear the content read aloud with synchronous dual highlighting, which research shows improves reading comprehension. All students, whether struggling readers or strong performers, can take advantage of the enhancements. For example, the study skills tool includes highlighter pens to create annotations that persist from session to session with the option to extract those annotations to another document.
