FlipCon13 Virtual Conference set for June 18-19, 2013

Washington, D.C. (May 20, 2013) – The 6th Annual Flipped Conference is scheduled for June 18-19 in Stillwater, Minn., and worldwide through the FlipCon13 Virtual Conference live stream. Virtual attendees can participate in keynote sessions with speakers Jon Bergmann, Aaron Sams and Ramsey Musallam; a panel of students, parents and educators; and 28 concurrent sessions. A moderated online communication channel will enable virtual attendees to contribute questions and participate in discussion.

The following four strands, with 28 hours of content, will be broadcast in their entirety:

  • Seven featured speakers
  • Sessions for teachers new to Flipped Learning
  • Mastery learning for more experienced educators
  • Tools of the trade

For a complete list of sessions descriptions and presenters, see flippedlearning.org/flipcon13.

With Flipped Learning, some or most of the direct instruction is delivered outside the group learning space using video or other modes of delivery. Class time, then, is available for students to engage in hands-on learning, to collaborate with their peers, and to evaluate their progress and for teachers to provide one-on-one assistance, guidance and inspiration. The shift is from a teacher-centered classroom to a student-centered learning environment. Teachers are embracing Flipped Learning in elementary and secondary schools for all subject areas.

The Virtual Conference is $105 per person for live streaming directly from FlipCon13 or the archived sessions, which will be available for six months. Deep discounts are available for groups, such as school and district Professional Learning Communities (PLC). Graduate Credit (two semester credits) is available through Hamline University's School of Education, Department of Continuing Studies in St. Paul, Minn. The course combines the FlipCon13 Virtual experience with a four-week online component. Seats are unlimited for the virtual event.

Keynote speakers include Jon Bergmann and Aaron Sams, the pioneers of Flipped Learning and co-authors of Flip Your Classroom: Reach Every Student in Every Class Every Day, and Ramsey Musallam, a chemistry teacher in San Francisco, TED speaker and author of the blog Cycles of Learning.

FlipCon13 sponsors include JDL Horizon’s EduVision, TechSmith, Pearson, Mackin Educational Services, Crazy for Education, Schoolwires, Sophia Learning, Cisco, and Tierney Brothers, Inc.
