Cincinnati, OH (November 30, 2015) — PublicSchoolWORKS’ “Steroids and Supplements: Use, Abuse and Prevention Strategies” online training course is now officially approved by the Oregon Department of Education as meeting the Oregon School Activities Association’s (OSSA) Steroids Training and Assessment requirement and is now listed as an approved course on the Oregon Department of Education website. In an attempt to reduce the use and abuse of anabolic steroids and performance enhancing substances (ASPES) among school-age children, OSSA requires all district employees who are coaches or athletic directors to be trained on identifying the signs of ASPES use and abuse, as well as understanding evidence-based prevention strategies. The Oregon State Legislature Senate Bill 517 requires all applicable employees complete this training once every four years.
“Steroids and Supplements: Use, Abuse and Prevention Strategies” educates employees about the effects anabolic steroids, performance-enhancing supplements and energy drinks have on athletes; the warning signs that athletes are abusing them and prevention strategies for districts to implement. The system automatically sends training requests to appropriate employees and auto-tracks and auto-emails district administrators regarding employees who did not complete the course through PublicSchoolWORKS’ online training system. This makes follow-up with employees more targeted and the ability to ensure compliance more efficient.
