Access to High Quality Online Lessons Will Expand With Development of App

NEW YORK —Aug. 20, 2013— Today Pearson announced the continued, free availability of Virtual Nerd’s high quality math tutorials and the development of a new app that will put a professional math tutor in the palm of students’ hands. The global education company acquired Virtual Nerd on July 1, 2013.

“Since Virtual Nerd’s debut, Pearson supported the innovative developer because we recognized the high quality of its instructional content and the way that it perfectly complements our Common Core math programs,” said Jim Ferguson, Pearson's vice president for K-12 literacy and math, design and technology. “Through our new partnership, we can now ensure that Virtual Nerd’s technology tools and expansive library of math resources will be available to millions of teachers, students and families around the world anywhere they are, on any device they choose.”

The Virtual Nerd collection of free, online, video tutorials supports 21st Century learning by delivering personalized content to students. The searchable library of tutorials correlates to academic courses of study in Grades 6-8 Math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Algebra 2 and Geometry, and is aligned to the Common Core, SAT Math topics and ACT Math topics. Each video is tagged with searchable keywords and connects to background tutorials as well.

In addition, students learning with digits and Pearson’s High School Mathematics Common Core programs now have access to the benefits of private tutoring through content-aligned tutorials presented on Virtual Nerd's Dynamic Whiteboard® instructional platform, which anticipates students' questions and allows them to drill down, with ease, on specific areas where they are having difficulty.

Searchable and correlated to the Common Core State Standards and the company’s secondary math curricula, the Virtual Nerd app will be available on the App Store in fall 2013. An Android app is also under development. The Virtual Nerd website’s responsive design supports all major mobile platforms.
