WASHINGTON, D.C. – March 23, 2016 – The International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE®) today announced that it awarded a Seal of Alignment for Proficiency to two universities for their programs to prepare educators for leveraging the power of technology to improve learning for students. California State University, Fullerton, earned the Seal of Alignment for its educational technology master’s program against the ISTE Standards for Coaches, and Lehigh University’s College of Education in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, received the recognition for its Technology Use in Schools graduate certificate program against the ISTE Standards for Teachers.
“California State University, Fullerton, and Lehigh University are illustrative of the growing number of colleges and universities that are increasing their focus on ensuring that today’s educators are prepared to integrate technology into learning and teaching in meaningful ways that improve student outcomes,” said Carolyn Sykora, senior director, ISTE Standards Program. “We are proud to award the Seal of Alignment to both universities for programs that allow educator to practice the skills and knowledge necessary to meet the ISTE Standards.”
Cal State, Fullerton, offers a 16-month educational technology master’s program with all course work and learning offered online. It is appropriate for pre- or in-service K-12 educators and technology coaches. ISTE reviewers reported that Cal State Fullerton’s program offers a high-quality, sequenced, and interactive online learning experience. Students who complete this program are exposed to both the theory and practice of using technology in student-centered ways and are prepared to become technology leaders and advocates. They determined that the program provides substantial opportunities for participating teachers to practice the skills and knowledge necessary to meet the ISTE Standards for Coaches.
Lehigh University’s Technology Use in Schools certificate program is a 12-credit, four course graduate certificate program. It is offered online and is appropriate for K-12 educators in the United States and abroad. ISTE’s reviewers found that this program prepares teachers, administrators, and technologists to effectively integrate technology to meet the classroom learning needs in both United States and international schools through the application of theory and practice. Reviewers determined that this resource provides substantial opportunities for participating teachers to practice the skills and knowledge necessary to meet the ISTE Standards for Teachers.
Products and resources submitted to the ISTE Seal of Alignment program undergo a rigorous review by a panel of subject matter experts who have a deep understanding of the ISTE Standards. Resources and solutions seeking the ISTE Seal of Alignment are evaluated based on their pedagogical value and the extent to which they build the skills embodied in the standards. The Seal of Alignment for Proficiency recognizes resources that offer a flexible implementation plan and provide opportunities to practice the skills and knowledge necessary to meet the ISTE Standards.
