Mentoring Minds Partners with California Association of Latino Superintendents and Administrators to Sponsor 2016 Administrator of the Year Award
New Award Honors an Outstanding Educator for Distinguished Contributions to a School or District
LOS ANGELES – April 7, 2016 – National K-12 publisher Mentoring Minds today announced a partnership with the California Association of Latino Superintendents and Administrators (CALSA) to sponsor the 2016 Mentoring Minds Administrator of the Year Award, which honors an exceptional leader in education for outstanding contributions to a school or district. While CALSA has offered scholarships to administrators to help further their continuing education and professional development, the 2016 Mentoring Minds Administrator of the Year Award is the organization’s first award dedicated to celebrating the achievements and impact of a sitting administrator.
“We are excited to work with Mentoring Minds to recognize our administrators for the many hours of hard work, creativity and dedication that they invest to ensure that our state’s students achieve at the highest levels,” said David Verdugo, Ed.D., executive director, CALSA. “With the increased challenges faced by California school administrators, it is more important than ever before that we recognize success and invest in the future of our school leaders.”
The inaugural scholarship award offers one administrator $10,000 to be used toward personal growth, student scholarships, or a charity of their choice. Applicants must be a current CALSA member in good standing and a sitting superintendent, deputy superintendent, chief academic officer, chief business officer, or principal. A comprehensive nomination form must be submitted detailing demonstrated success as a site or district administrator with clear student outcome criteria such as increased graduation rates and improved reading scores. The successful applicant must also show an ongoing commitment to professional growth and support for CALSA’s mission.
“California administrators face myriad challenges in helping students become college and career ready, so it is vital that they have a network that provides mentorship and support along the way,” said Robert Bush, CEO, Mentoring Minds. “Being able to support the administrators of California through an organization as dedicated to the growth of quality education as CALSA is especially gratifying and we look forward to working with them for many years to come.”
Scholarship nominations are due May 1, with the winner notified by May 30 and the award presented at the CALSA Summer Institute in San Jose, California, an event to be held July 18-21, 2016.
