2016 DimensionU Department of Defense Math Games a Hit!

Student Teams Representing Navy, Air Force, and Army Compete in STEM Video Game Event   Richmond, Virginia – May 12, 2016 – Award-winning, educational video game developer, DimensionU, Inc. hosted the 3rd Annual Department of Defense Math Games Tournament this week at four military research laboratories around the country. Middle school students from four states competed in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade level teams.   Each location represented a branch of the military and their respective STEM Outreach offices.  Grade level teams from each location participated in five multiplayer rounds of mathematics-based video game play using DimensionU’s gaming platform.  Similar to other DimensionU competitive educational gaming events, the tournament took place in a virtual, first-person action video game world, where students compete and interact as teams solving mathematics problems.  The tournament was augmented with live video communication across the four states, allowing students to see their respective challengers.

In South Carolina, SPAWAR Systems Center Atlantic (U.S. Navy) sponsored school teams from Dorchester Two school district in the North Charleston, SC area. In New York, the Griffiss Institute and the Air Force Research Laboratory sponsored students from Rome City Schools in Rome, NY. In Illinois, the U.S. Army Construction Engineering Research Laboratory (CERL) sponsored students from the Urbana 116 School District in Champaign, IL. In New Jersey, the U.S. Army Armament Research Development and Engineering Center (ARDEC) at Picatinny Arsenal, sponsored students from the Diocese of Paterson Catholic Schools, in Parsippany, NJ.

Results of the event were as follows: For the 6th Grade Competition, Gregg Middle School (Navy-SC) took first place, Staley Upper Elementary School (Air Force-NY) took second and Urbana Middle School (Army-IL) placed third. For the 7th Grade Competition, Gregg Middle School (Navy-SC) placed first, All Saints Academy (Army-NJ) placed second and Urbana Middle School (Army-IL) placed third. For the Mixed Grade Level-A Competition, Alston Middle School (Navy-SC) took first, Staley Upper Elementary School (Air Force-NY) placed second and Urbana Middle School (Army-IL) placed third. In the Mixed Grade Level B Competition, Dubose Middle School (Navy-SC) placed first, Staley Upper Elementary School (Air Force-NY) took second and All Saints Academy (Army-NJ) took third.

Third Annual Ed-Gaming Competition Supports Mathematics Education  for Elementary, Middle and High School Students   Richmond, VA – February 23, 2016  - DimensionU, Inc. announced results today from its 2016 Hawaii Math Games Competition, held Friday, February 19, 2016 at the University of Hawaii – West Oahu through a collaborative effort with the Holomua GEAR UP Program and 21st Century Community Learning Centers.  The 3rd annual event kicked off with an Oli Officiant, followed by the Campbell High School Color Guard processional and opening remarks from Hawaii DOE Deputy State Superintendent, Mr. Stephen Shatz and UH-West Oahu Chancellor, Dr. Doris Ching.   In addition, Complex Area Superintendents, Ms. Ann Mahi from Nanakuli-Waianae, Ms. Ruth Silberstein, from Kaimuki-McKinley-Roosevelt and Mr. Chad Farias from Kau-Keaau-Pahoa also offered opening remarks and supportive words to help kick off the day’s event.   Papa John’s Pizza from the Leeward Coast was the official lunch sponsor, providing pizza for the 200+ attendees.

DimensionU Announces Winners of 2016 Broward Before and After School Child Care Event   Fort Lauderdale, FL – March 9, 2016 – Award winning educational video-game developer, DimensionU, Inc., announced results today from the 2016 Before and After School Child Care, (BASCC), Math Games Competition, held Saturday, March 5, 2016 at South Plantation High School in Broward County, Florida.  The event was part of DimensionU’s 2016 Coast-2-Coast Spring Tournament Season and the 1st annual school-year competition in partnership with BASCC.   Forty BASCC school sites across Broward County began competing virtually in November 2015 in order to qualify for one of eight team slots available in the culminating finals event held on Saturday.    The eight sites with the highest cumulative scores earned a place in the finals. Those eight school sites were: Flamingo Elementary, Hawkes Bluff Elementary, Heron Heights Elementary, Riverglades Elementary, Riverside Elementary, Sunset Lakes Elementary, Tropical Elementary, and Westchester Elementary.  Each site was eligible to bring a team of 6 students accompanied by their school educator chaperones and parents.
