200 exceptional teachers will be chosen through a competitive selection process to attend TeachFest, an all-expenses-paid, intensive professional development event that initiates a deep-dive into Common Core

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Dec. 10, 2014) – LearnZillion, a digital curriculum and professional learning platform used by more than 550,000 educators, is recruiting top K-8 mathematics teachers for its 2015 Dream Team. Selected each year through a highly competitive process, these teachers are united in their goal to develop themselves and each other through a collaborative process of creating, curating and sharing high-quality Common Core resources for use with students. Only 5 percent of the more than 4,000 applicants made the 2014 Dream Team.

Ideal candidates are K-8 math teachers, academic coaches and administrators from all types of schools and districts who:

·Want to scale their impact far beyond their own classroom and school.

·Deeply understand the content they teach and want to share that conceptual understanding with others.

·Are excited to give and receive thoughtful and critical feedback on lessons.

·Are ready to roll up their sleeves and dive into a rigorous and challenging content creation process.

·Are eager to join a nationwide community that is committed to providing high-quality resources to all teachers and students.

K-8 Math teachers who want to scale their impact, challenge themselves in new ways and learn from content experts can submit part one of the two-part application by Jan. 25, 2015, starting on the 2015 Dream Team page.

A computer-based brain training program developed at Yale University helps improve student performance in reading and math — in some cases even more than individualized tutoring, according to a new study published Sept. 12 in Scientific Reports.In a study of more than 500 second graders, math and reading scores on school- administered tests increased significantly more in children who used the brain training program Activate during the school year than in control classes. The effect on math achievement scores was greater than what has been reported for one-on-one tutoring and the effect on reading scores was greater than what has been reported for summer reading programs.
