LUBBOCK, Texas (Nov. 3, 2016) – To keep pace with growing economic demands and prepare students to compete in a competitive workforce, education providers are turning to Career and Technical Education (CTE). A new infographic from CEV Multimedia, a leading producer of CTE curricula, illustrates the increasing need for comprehensive training opportunities in the industries that are projected to grow the most in the next decade.

Many CTE programs address the growing needs in highly specialized industries, and help students learn the technical elements of their job, while also enabling them to gain a better understanding of their educational pathway. CTE equips students with 21st century skills, preparing them for viable careers in high-growth industries. For instance, the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) cites:

  • The top 10 hardest-to-fill jobs include skilled trade positions, while healthcare occupations make up 12 of the 20 fastest growing occupations.
  • There are one million jobs open in trade, transportation and utilities sectors, and 315,000 jobs in manufacturing.
  • Middle-skill jobs that require education and training beyond school, but less than a bachelor’s degree, make up a significant part of the economy and workforce.

“CTE programs and training materials continue to fill a growing need in education programs to train students that will enter jobs in promising fields like healthcare, manufacturing and trade,” said Dusty Moore, president of iCEV. “The infographic highlights that as workforce needs and industry technology evolve, CTE will continue to be a cornerstone in education programs around the country, and will play an even greater role in educating the next generation of skilled workers.”

Additionally, as the workforce expands and requires more skilled workers, middle schools, high school and postsecondary education institutions have seen CTE become an integral part of their curriculum – especially as new technology and certification opportunities become available via tools like iCEV. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, 15 percent of all credits earned by high school graduates are in CTE, and that 97 percent of graduates earn at least a credit in CTE.

Likewise, with the help of curriculum developers, industry partnerships, and easy-to-use technology, CTE is being delivered to students in a modern and relevant way to help them succeed in their career path. ACTE shows that the average high school graduation rate for students concentrating in CTE is 93 percent, and that 81 percent of high school dropouts have said that relevant real-world learning opportunities would have kept them in school.
