2017 Reading Discovery Program Highlights Personal Diplomacy at the Bush Presidential Library

On Thursday, January 26 at 10 a.m. CST, the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum and Discovery Education, the leading provider of digital content for K-12 classrooms, are partnering to present a unique, no-cost, distance learning opportunity for students across the globe. The Tenth Annual Reading Discovery Program will take place at the Annenberg Presidential Conference Center on the campus of Texas A&M University.

COLLEGE STATION, January 18, 2017 — On Thursday, January 26 at 10 a.m. CST, the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum and Discovery Education, the leading provider of digital content for K-12 classrooms, are partnering to present a unique, no-cost, distance learning opportunity for students across the globe. The Tenth Annual Reading Discovery Program will take place at the Annenberg Presidential Conference Center on the campus of Texas A&M University.

The program will honor First Lady Barbara Bush’s legacy of literacy and her public service to all Americans. Neil Bush will read about his father, President George H.W. Bush’s personal diplomacy during his service in China as Chief Liaison. Director of Presidential Libraries Susan Donius will explore the roles of Presidential libraries and museums and diplomacy in presidential history. Discovery Education Director of Mathematics Patrick Vennebush will answer questions about digital learning games and educational technology. Moderating the program will be award winning television broadcaster Mike Wright from KBTX and KWTX. There will be a Q&A session via global video conference with students from across the country and overseas.

This program also coincides with official launch of “White House Dinner Dash,” the 2017 free interactive learning game app available on Apple (IPhone/IPad), Google Play (Android/tablet), and online at whitehousedinnerdash.com. This game is focused on the value of personal diplomacy and will be demonstrated during the program.

“Today’s tech-savvy students are at home in a digital world,” explains Vennebush. “Digital content and games are unique resources teachers can use to immerse students in classroom instruction. I am looking forward to participating in this event and sharing with attendees a new perspective on the future of education.”

NFL, AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION AND DISCOVERY EDUCATION HOST VIRTUAL FIELD TRIP LIVE FROM SUPER BOWL LI

The NFL and American Heart Association, together with Discovery Education, will host the first-ever AHA-NFL PLAY 60 Challenge Virtual Field Trip (VFT) live from Houston on Tuesday, Jan. 31 at 12 PM CT from the NFL Experience Driven by Genesis. The free virtual experience will be live-streamed in classrooms across the country, reaching thousands of students. Houston Texans players WHITNEY MERCILUS and CHRISTIAN COVINGTON and the American Heart Association’s MERCEDES CARNETHON, Ph.D. will teach students the science behind cardio and strength exercises that NFL players use to stay fit and active. The hour-long session will also feature a Q&A, a physical activity session designed for a classroom setting and a behind-the-scenes look at the Houston Texans practice facility and Houston’s Health Museum.

3M AND DISCOVERY EDUCATION ANNOUNCE FIRST-EVER YOUNG SCIENTIST VIRTUAL FIELD TRIP

The second Virtual Field Trip of the Operation Prevention initiative, the immersive experience will broadcast LIVE from Pullman Square in Huntington, W.Va. today, October 25, 2017 from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. ET and will provide viewers with a first-hand look into local communities hardest hit by the national opioid epidemic.
