BOSTON Dec. 12, 2013 — Lexia Reading Core5™, the cloud-based personalized learning program that accelerates mastery of foundational reading skills, was selected for the as one of District Administration magazine’s 2013 Readers’ Choice Top 100 products. Developed by Lexia Learning®, a Rosetta Stone® (NYSE:RST) company, Lexia Reading Core5 was launched in July 2013 and was recognized by District Administration during the product’s first year of eligibility for the award. This recognition also marks the fourth year in a row that Lexia’s technology-based reading programs have been honored by educators as a District Administration Top 100 product.

“We constantly hear from schools and districts how Lexia Reading Core5 benefits students of a wide range of ages and ability levels, including beginning readers, English language learners, struggling readers, and even more advanced readers who are reading on or above grade level,” said Lexia President Nick Gaehde. “It’s very rewarding to know that the educators who have used Lexia Reading Core5 recognize the innovation, effectiveness and impact of our product.”

The District Administration honor is given annually to companies that provide educational solutions positively impacting K–12 classrooms, schools, and districts. The winners were selected by the editors of the magazine based on a record number of nominations submitted by superintendents and district-level directors from across the United States. The winners will be featured on www.districtadministration.com and in the magazine’s December issue, giving district leaders the unique opportunity to learn what products their colleagues around the country are using and how these products contribute to the success of their districts.

Three years in the making and built upon Lexia’s research-proven methodology, Lexia Reading Core5 expands the scope of the award-winning Lexia Reading® program by covering six areas of reading: phonological awareness, phonics, structural analysis, vocabulary, automaticity and comprehension.

The program’s design creates personalized learning paths for every student, whether struggling, on-level or needing more challenges, by providing explicit instruction and immediate corrective feedback. Students work independently in 18 unique levels of engaging yet self-paced activities that take them on adventures around the world. Throughout the program, students interact with complex text as they develop critical literacy, listening and reading comprehension skills.

If a student struggles with a particular activity, he or she is presented with a scaffolded approach to mastering the relevant skill. If the student continues to struggle, he or she receives skill-specific, explicit instruction online, and if necessary, teacher-led instruction using Lexia’s scripted lesson materials. This personalized approach simplifies differentiated instruction, enabling at-risk students to close the gap more quickly and helping on-level and advanced students to progress with support from their teacher as needed.

As students work in the program, Lexia’s proprietary Assessment Without Testing® technology gathers norm-referenced performance data—without stopping the flow of instruction to administer a test—and adjusts each student’s learning path accordingly. Teachers and administrators receive real-time reports on individual student progress toward Common Core mastery as well as reports indicating each student’s probability of meeting end-of-year, grade-level benchmarks. The system also generates individualized action plans recommending interventions and the proper intensity of instruction necessary to improve student performance and meet benchmarks.
