—School Superintendents Leading the Digital Transition Provide Insight into Creating Engaging Learning Experiences—
Alexandria, Va. and Silver Spring, Md. – May 9, 2017 – The creation of dynamic, digital learning environments by superintendents across the country are profiled in a new series of case studies created by AASA, The School Superintendents Association, and Discovery Education.
The school district leaders showcased in this series are members of AASA’s Digital Consortium, which provides them with opportunities to work together and gain insights into emerging successful models for using digital materials to build engaging learning experiences that support the success of all learners.
“The highlighted profiles illustrate some of the best practices and strategies that have made the digital transition a reality in the communities served by members of our Digital Consortium,” said Daniel A. Domenech, AASA executive director. “We’re thankful to the superintendents who participated in this series, and to Discovery Education for collaborating with us to create these case studies. Together, we’ve captured some great examples of the tremendous work school systems across the country are doing to build the dynamic digital learning environments today’s students need for success beyond graduation.”
Superintendents profiled in the AASA-Discovery Education Case Study Series include:
·Kristine Gilmore, D.C. Everest Area School District, Schofield, Wisc.
·Mike Lubelfeld, Deerfield Public School District 109, Deerfield, Ill.
·Aaron Spence, Virginia Beach City Public Schools, Virginia Beach, Va.
“By creating modern digital classrooms that mirror students’ use of technology in their personal lives, the superintendents profiled in these case studies are not only transforming teaching and learning in their school districts, but they are also leading a movement that is sweeping across the country,” said Mark Edwards, senior vice president of digital learning, Discovery Education, and the AASA 2013 National Superintendent of the Year. “Discovery Education and AASA are pleased to highlight the work of Superintendents Gilmore, Lubelfeld and Spence.”
The series also contains a powerful white paper entitled Stronger Together: How Superintendents PLCs Can Make Your Job Easier. This report focuses on how today’s superintendents are using AASA and Discovery Education to connect with peers nationwide to create their own professional learning communities.
The series concludes with A Transformation That Propels Advances in Student Learning, which profiles the impact of AASA’s Digital Consortium. Founded in 2014, the Consortium was created to support school district leadership in the areas of innovation, creativity and technology. Membership in the Consortium enriches the collective leadership experiences of participating superintendents through the review and careful analysis of evidence-informed practices. Both the case studies and the white papers are available at no cost on the AASA and Discovery Education websites.
