Motivation Math Vocabulary Card Sets Help Develop Strong Foundation in Critical Terminology
CHICAGO – April 3, 2014– Mentoring Minds, a national publisher of K-12 educational resources, announced today the debut of its Motivation Math Vocabulary Card Sets, a powerful new tool to help students gain mastery over essential terms for mathematics. The vocabulary cards are designed to extend and deepen students’ overall understanding of mathematics vocabulary, providing them with opportunities to develop a strong foundation in the critical content-area terminology.
Research shows there is a positive correlation between vocabulary instruction and comprehension, and that this combination of linguistic and non-linguistic representations promotes deeper understanding of content-area vocabulary. Consisting of more than 120 cards, the definitions and illustrations found in the Motivation Math Vocabulary Card Sets help students master the basic mathematics words and concepts taught in grade levels 1-5. Combined with the Motivation Math Word Play Activities Teacher Guide, which is included free with all sets, there are over 100 activities to assist in the development and reinforcement of mathematics vocabulary.
The activities in Motivation Math Vocabulary Card Sets, which are designed to enhance critical thinking and motivate and challenge students, can be used with the entire class, in small groups or by partners. The Vocabulary Card Sets can also be used as supplemental material for tutoring sessions, math labs, English Language Learners (ELL), and intervention programs.
“At Mentoring Minds, we continually strive to offer robust resources for teachers and students that will provide opportunities for the enhancement of critical thinking skills,” said Robert Bush, CEO of Mentoring Minds. “The Motivation Math Vocabulary Card Sets promote interactive math activities, engage students in active learning, and encourage cooperation. These are skills that are critical to students’ success not only in the classroom, but to their continued success in the future.”
Each vocabulary card features bold, readable text that states the mathematics term on the front and the definition, as well as a graphical representation and/or example, on the back. The cards are arranged alphabetically and packaged in a durable box.
