Nation’s Top Teachers Selected for ‘Dream Team’ by LearnZillion
200 selected from international pool of 4,000 to participate in TeachFest, the premier professional development event for the Common Core
WASHINGTON (May 6, 2014) – LearnZillion, a curriculum and professional learning platform built from the Common Core, announces its 2014 Dream Team of 200 talented math and English language arts (ELA) teachers. Selected through a highly competitive international application process, Dream Team members represent the best of district, charter and independent educators from 42 states and three countries.
The Dream Team will convene in New Orleans for TeachFest, a unique professional development event from June 4-7, where they will kick-off a rigorous summer-long collaboration to create high-quality formative assessment tools and resources that will support teachers implementing the Common Core across the United States. Following TeachFest, Dream Team members will return to their respective districts and continue to work in facilitated online professional learning communities (PLCs).
“TeachFest was the most amazing professional development that I have ever been a part of,” said returning 2013 Dream Team member Leah Weimerskirch of Queens Village, N.Y. “Not only did I feel a sense of community, but I really had to challenge myself to be successful in creating lessons. We’ve produced quality material that is truly aligned with the Common Core.”
“We are excited to continue honoring and championing the powerful work of teachers,” said Eric Westendorf, LearnZillion CEO. “With 4,000 applicants and only 200 spots, we truly have a Dream Team of teachers who are hungry for challenging professional development that allows them to scale their impact for the benefit of teachers and students around the world.”
The diverse 2014 Dream Team members represent 42 states, three countries (U.S., Singapore and Tunisia) and over 2,300 years of teaching experience, ranging from two to 42 years in the classroom. Click here for a complete list of educator names by state.
