ProExam Digital Micro-Credential Solution Adds Assessment, Secure Verification to “Badges”

NEW YORK – Jan. 24, 2013 – Professional Examination Service, the most experienced organization in professional licensure and certification services, today introduced the credentialing industry’s first comprehensive system to create, deliver and display digital “badges,” the ProExam Digital Micro-Credential solution. The new service is being shown for the first time at the Association of Test Publishers’ annual Innovations in Testing Conference in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Feb. 3-6, 2013.

The ProExam Digital Micro-Credential adds psychometric soundness, exacting assessment and one-click secure verification to the emerging open badges environment, which is being driven by efforts and organizations such as the Mozilla Open Badges project and the MacArthur Foundation.

The ProExam Digital Micro-Credential adheres to the Open Badge Infrastructure, allowing for portability and interoperability, but layers on security, assessment and verification required by employers to indicate that a candidate has acquired or demonstrated a targeted set of skills, accomplishments or knowledge. For example, a sponsor may award a web-based micro-credential for a skill such as Time Management, which a candidate can then openly display on social networking or job websites, or use to differentiate his or her career progression within a company in addition to other credentials.

“In discussions with both employers and our clients, we’ve found there is great interest in the ability to provide additional, very specific micro-credentials either as a precursor for, or an add-on to, existing credentials,” said Robert S. Block, president and CEO, Professional Examination Service. “We’ve designed the ProExam Digital Micro-Credential solution to meet these needs, while leveraging digital advances to give individuals great ease and flexibility in sharing their achievements online.”

During in-depth interviews conducted by an independent research firm, Fortune 500 senior hiring managers in financial services, health care, food services and information technology consistently stated that the ProExam Digital Micro-Credential solution provided critical substance for digital badges, such as secure verification. A Research Brief summarizing the interviews is available on the Professional Examination Service website.

Professional Examination Service anticipates making the first announcements of clients using the ProExam Digital Micro-Credential solution this spring.
