Thought Leaders to Engage and Inspire ISTE 2014 Attendees

WASHINGTON, D.C. – May 27, 2014 – The International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE®) today unveiled the lineup for its inaugural EdTekTalks at ISTE 2014 in Atlanta. Five thought leaders from beyond the world of ed tech, including futurists, designers and social entrepreneurs, will deliver these mini-keynotes on Monday, June 30, from 2:15 p.m.- 4:15 p.m.

“By looking and listening beyond our own communities, we discover new ideas and are inspired to innovate in ways we hadn’t previously imagined,” said ISTE CEO Brian Lewis. “Our new EdTekTalks will encourage and trigger us, as individuals and organizations, to imagine new ways to leverage technology to advance learning and teaching.”

The thought leaders who will make these provocative presentations at ISTE 2014 are:

Dale Dougherty, founder of Make magazine, creator of Maker Fair and coiner of the phrase “Web 2.0,” brings the do-it-yourselfer mindset to everyday technology, celebrating the right to tweak, hack and bend any technology to your own will.

Convinced of the power of design to change the world, Emily Pilloton founded Project H to help develop effective design solutions for people who need them most. Her work in Bertie County, North Carolina, the poorest and most rural county in the state, was the subject of the nationally released documentary, “If You Build It.”

Co-director of the IDC Media Invention Lab, Guy Hoffman, explores the humanity of robots – how they think, feel act and move – as they interact with humans. His work has been named one of TIME magazine’s Best Inventions of the Year.

When a hand tremor endangered his intense style of pointillism painting, Phil Hansen rebounded by learning to “embrace the shake.” Visual artist, creative collaborator and author, he has invented different approaches to making art by exploring personal and universal limitations.

Shaherose Charania’s passion for technology and making a positive difference in the world inspired her to create Women 2.0, a media brand at the intersection of women, entrepreneurship and technology that’s designed to foster the next generation of technology leaders. In 2010, she was recognized by Fast Company as one of the Most Influential Women in Technology.

Attendance at the EdTekTalks is included in ISTE 2014 registration, but seating is limited. Registered attendees are encouraged to sign-up in advance at: http://isteconference.org/2014/program/edtektalks.php
