Four New Apps for Learning Fractions Now Available

PETALUMA, CA — March 4, 2014 — Conceptua® Math today announced four new apps for learning fractions on the heralded Edmodo® platform. Conceptua Fractions, designed for grades 3-6, provides unprecedented visual learning supports for both teachers and students. With this breakthrough offering, teachers can purchase month-long, whole class replacement curriculum at affordable prices.

Conceptua Math is initially offering four month-long units of study: Understanding Fractions, Adding & Subtracting Fractions, Equivalent Fractions, and Multiplying Fractions. These Conceptua Math lessons are built from the ground up to support the Common Core Standards for Mathematical Practice. Each unit, or app, provides classroom teachers with on-screen discussion guides as well as practice lessons for students. Each app includes 14 - 18 Guides Lessons for students, plus additional “Reteach” lessons if students struggle.

Edmodo, the world's largest social learning platform for teachers, students, and parents, has over 32 million users. In addition to their social and recommendation features, Edmodo helps teachers locate and purchase high-quality resources through the Edmodo store.

Teachers can find the Conceptua Math apps in Edmodo by searching for paid math apps at the elementary level. Each app costs $49 per year for a group license. The teacher can assign entire units of study to the whole class or individual students within the class. The students simply log into Edmodo, find their assignment, and go to work.

A typical Conceptua Math lesson consists of three parts. First comes the Lesson Opener, where the teacher uses an interactive whiteboard or other front-of-the-room technology to facilitate a lively, interactive class discussion of 10-15 minutes. This onscreen, interactive discussion promotes classroom discourse and builds background knowledge. Once the lesson is introduced, the students log in for their Guided Lesson. Each Lesson is supported with a Lesson Opener and a Lesson Closer for teachers. The lesson culminates with a Lesson Closer. Similar in format to the Opener, this final 5-minute activity is designed to summarize learning and check for understanding.

“Our partnership with Edmodo represents a big step. Conceptua Math is a core instructional solution, not a simple ’app’ or game. Our product is designed to empower teachers as much as students. Now, by reaching out to Edmodo’s 30-million-strong user base with teacher friendly pricing, we are breaking the curriculum adoption barrier,” said Conceptua CEO Arjan Khalsa.
