Illinois districts share cloud resources

Illinois school districts are partnering to share valuable IT resources through IlliniCloud, a cutting-edge cloud computing consortium.

The IlliniCloud’s 150 members pool budgets and share data center resources in an efficient, on-demand infrastructure model that has the potential to fundamentally shift how organizations – from rural schools to Fortune 500 companies – plan and implement IT.

“With the cloud computing model, we don’t charge you for resources you are not going use,” explained Jim Peterson, chief technology officer for IlliniCloud. “Members are then free to refocus technology resources on the classroom, for the direct benefit of students and teachers.”

The non-profit cloud computing consortium worked with CDW to provide affordable access to virtual servers, online storage and high-speed network connectivity across the state.
