Tip:
How do you know if you are offering the right professional development opportunities? Benchmarking allows you to compare what you are doing with other educational organizations and helps you identify strategies for improvement. There are three types of benchmarking that you can apply to professional development for your school or district:
- Internal benchmarking where you compare your costs and effectiveness for PD for one area or department or grade level with another department or grade level.
- Competitive benchmarking where you compare your costs and effectiveness for PD with other schools in your district or other districts.
- Generic benchmarking where you compare your costs and effectiveness for all PD in your school or district with other types of training that companies in your area provide.
No matter how large or small your organization, benchmarking will help you identify if you are offering the best you can offer for the money you have available.
