Southeast Polk (IA) Community School District superintendent Tom Downs is retiring this July 1. He was hired at Southeast Polk after spending five years as the superintendent of schools in La Crosse, Wisc. He previously served administrative positions in the West Des Moines, Urbandale, and Johnston community school districts. Downs was named the Iowa Principal of the Year in 1992 while at Johnston.
