Library of Congress: Exhibitions: Gettysburg Address

Publish date:

On this anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s delivery of the Gettysburg Address in 1863, spend time looking at this exhibit from the Library of Congress. You’ll find some background about the speech itself and the impact it had. There is also a demonstration of how two of the drafts of the speech are being preserved in the Library of Congress. See pictures of the construction of the environmental cases that hold these precious documents. A video showing an interview with the curator of the exhibition explains about the various drafts of the speech and specifically the two on display. You can also click on the address itself to see Lincoln’s handwritten copy up close and read a transcript of this short, but powerful piece of American history.
