MagicStudent is MagicSchool’s student-facing AI experience, designed to help students build AI literacy, practice responsible use, and grow confidence in their learning. Built within the MagicSchool platform, MagicStudent is intentionally used only when an educator launches a Room, ensuring AI supports instruction rather than distracting from it.

Unlike consumer AI tools adapted for schools, MagicStudent is purpose-built for K-12 learning with an educational layer that includes moderation, teacher oversight, and guardrails that prevent cognitive offload. Teachers select which AI education tools students can access and guide how they are used, turning everyday classroom moments into meaningful building blocks for AI literacy.

Students receive real-time, rubric-aligned feedback on their work and individualized support while teachers maintain full control. By combining teacher oversight with purposeful student engagement, MagicStudent helps schools introduce AI in a way that is thoughtful, safe, and grounded in learning.

"At first I was a little bit hesitant because a lot of students like to use AI to cheat, but using MagicSchool, it helps me form the ideas,” says eighth grader Coletta Quain-Terry, a student at Gateway Science Academy in St. Louis. “It doesn't just give me the answer.”

‘I feel like a professional writer now.’

MagicStudent is used as a teacher-guided workspace that fits naturally into classroom instruction. Educators create Rooms and invite students when AI can meaningfully support a lesson, activity, or learning goal. Within each Room, teachers choose which tools students can use, keeping engagement aligned with curriculum.

Common uses include writing feedback in which students draft independently and receive formative feedback aligned to teacher rubrics, AI tutoring for math and science that asks probing questions rather than giving answers, and guided brainstorming that helps students explore ideas without doing the thinking for them.

“I feel like a professional writer now. It sounds so good!” says one student, after using MagicStudent’s writing coach.

MagicStudent does not function as a companion, chatbot, or always-available assistant. Instead, it behaves like instructional software, offering guided, task-based support that strengthens learning and requires students to do their own thinking first.

“Some kids go home to parents who can help revise their papers,” says Kyle Beimfohr, Digital Learning Coach at Zionsville Community Schools. “Others go home to an empty house. We needed a way to give every student the same type of feedback and support.”

Built By Educators For Educators

MagicStudent was built by educators for educators, with students at the center. Founded by a former teacher/principal, MagicSchool's team is made up largely of educators who understand classroom realities. This shows in how MagicStudent works: it has been purpose-built as an AI education tool since day one. It operates within an educational layer with built-in moderation, safety controls, and design choices that create intentional friction to prevent students from offloading their thinking.

Educators decide when AI is used, which tools are available, and how AI fits into instruction. Students cannot access MagicStudent independently or continuously, preventing the dependency that develops with other tools. This controlled access reinforces healthy boundaries and keeps AI grounded in learning goals.

“These sixth graders didn’t come in knowing how to design,” says ‍Ilka Stoessel, a sixth-grade social studies teacher at New York City Public Schools. “So we started with the basics: how to add text, choose a layout, and style their work. Bit by bit, they started thinking like creators.”

Districts report measurable outcomes. For example, Aurora Public Schools saw a 28% improvement in students meeting literacy expectations. This year, MagicStudent has grown more than 300% year-over-year in Student Rooms.

MagicStudent is part of the broader MagicSchool platform, which is used by 7 million educators across 160 countries and in nearly every U.S. school district.

A Scalable, Responsible Approach To AI

MagicStudent helps schools introduce AI in a way that builds skills without compromising safety, trust, or instructional integrity. Teachers gain a structured, educator-controlled way to use AI without worrying about distractions, inappropriate content, or tools designed for entertainment rather than learning.

Teachers report that MagicStudent helps them reach diverse learners. In fact, 88% say it helps them support students at different levels. Students who are below grade level can access simplified text and guided support, while advanced students can explore complex questions without waiting for teacher availability.

For administrators and districts, MagicStudent provides a scalable, responsible approach to student AI use that reduces uncertainty around AI policy, supports measurable learning outcomes, and ensures AI literacy develops under proper educational guidance.
