Charlotte N.C. (Jan. 25, 2018) — Implementing a district-wide social-emotional learning (SEL) program requires purposeful integration of curricula, data, and training. Social-emotional learning company Aperture Education will host a webinar at 1:30 p.m. EST on February 6, 2018, to highlight a successful example of this – the district-wide SEL initiative at Sudbury Public Schools in Massachusetts. The webinar will feature guests from Sudbury Public Schools and Open Circle, which provides a unique SEL curriculum. The speakers will discuss how the school district has paired Aperture Education's online SEL assessment and intervention system and the Open Circle curriculum to build a successful SEL program. They will discuss how Sudbury Public Schools:
· Structured benchmarking and data to create sustainability
· Used data to plan student supports and implementation
· Aligned elementary report cards to the eight competencies in Aperture’s SEL assessment, the Devereux Student Strengths Assessment (DESSA)
· Used SEL curricula as a model for universal SEL instruction
· Planned and implemented staff training to support SEL instruction
They will also discuss the district’s plans for the future.
“Having strong social and emotional learning skills can help students succeed in school and in life,” said Jessica Adamson, CEO of Aperture Education. “Our partners at Sudbury and Open Circle understand how important these skills are. We are hosting this webinar to allow them to share their expertise in providing a district-wide, integrated approach to social and emotional learning.”
The webinar is part of Aperture Education’s ongoing support of educators, administrators and out-of-school-time providers in implementing social and emotional learning programs within their schools or programs. Aperture Education provides SEL assessments and interventions and resources for schools, parents and organizations. It also offers a scholarship program for high school and college students.
About Aperture Education
Aperture Education is a social enterprise focused on addressing the whole child. Its social and emotional learning (SEL) solution, Evo Social/Emotional, is based on the Devereux Student Strengths Assessment (DESSA), a standardized, strengths-based measure of critical social and emotional skills. The Evo Social/Emotional online system includes both the DESSA and the DESSA-mini, a brief, universal screener of social and emotional competence. Evo Social/Emotional also provides intervention strategies and foundational practices to strengthen social and emotional skills. Its data helps SEL program administrators measure the impact of their programs and helps educators understand students’ SEL strengths and needs. For more information, go to www.ApertureEd.com.
