Identifying Actual Costs

Tip:
How do you measure the costs invested in your professional development program against the anticipated results. The best way to determine the total cost of your professional development program is to compare the costs per teacher with the savings per teacher.

Some of the costs may include:

  • Stipends for teachers
  • Cost for facilitator or trainer
  • Support materials
  • Additional software or hardware needed
  • Time for planning
  • Administrative costs

Savings may include:

  • Increased use of technology
  • Improved student achievement
  • Reduced teacher turnover
  • Better management strategies
  • Administrative support

It is not easy to put a dollar figure on each of the savings, but collecting data that shows positive or negative improvement will help you calculate the total cost of your program over time.
