Today's Newsletter: E-Rate Hot Potato?
Looks to be a big edtech news day today with an expected announcement from President Obama calling for a huge E-Rate overhaul at a school in Mooresville, NC. Edweek digs into some of the anticipated particulars of what is being dubbed ConnectED. The New York Times provides some other details here. Be ready for this to become yet another political hot potato even though administration officials say the plan would not need the approval of Congress but only the FCC, which governs the E-rate program. Color me cynical, but I doubt the announcement will address any concerns about the long history of profiteering in the current E-Rate program. I also won’t expect to hear any details on whether this funding will be tied to states complying with Common Core standards.
