Today's Newsletter: Social Media As K-12 Learning Tool

Guest post by Judy Salpeter

As program director for Tech & Learning events and editor of the K-12 Blueprint Web site, I have the joy of observing trends as they emerge and evolve. One of the most dramatic trends has been the way in which social media has been embraced by the K-12 world as a professional tool. Sure, there are the non-productive posters that Lisa Nielsen writes about in a recent blog, but it's clear that social media tools have become a mainstay of professional learning and community outreach. Check out examples of this work in SchoolCIO's September article on Using Social Media as a Professional Tool or by Brad Currie, Chris Casal, and Mike St. Pierre during a presentation at our Tech Forum NY. You can also join us for a virtual discussion on social media at next week’s Tech Forum TexasLivestream panel discussion, moderated by T&L advisor Carl Hooker, starting at 2:30 C.T. Last, add your opinion to the poll, “Do You Tweet and, if so, why?” We’ll share the results, naturally, via social media @K12blueprint and @techlearning.
