Today's Newsletter: The Backlash Against Big Data

More anecdotal evidence of big data and assessment backlash is appearing in the Tech&Learning news feed these days. Parents in Southwest Florida are speaking out: “There is a disconnect between what they’re testing on and what’s really happening.” In Pittsburgh, students are subjected to approximately 270 separate tests per school year. This New York City teacher expresses her disenchantment with testing culture here . These parents want their district to refuse RTTT funds but don’t believe anyone is listening. In Denver, parents and students got creative in their demonstrations (see above left). Whether these grassroots effort will have any affect remains to be seen but the grumbles certainly are getting louder. —Kevin Hogan, Editorial Director
