For the more-things-change file: How much time is too much time when it comes students using devices? The American Academy of Pediatrics announced changes this month to its guidelines for children and screens that leaves specifics for later but acknowledges the present: “In a world where 'screen time' is becoming simply 'time,' our policies must evolve or become obsolete. The public needs to know that the Academy’s advice is science-driven, not based merely on the precautionary principle.” The report goes on to list a number of common sense practices. Not everyone is happy about it. HuffPo blogger Gail Cornwall: “I'll continue allowing the current recommendations to guilt me into acknowledging my own internal voice--the one that knows my kids are better off scraping sticks through the dirt than watching a TV show.” What do you think? —Kevin Hogan, Content Director
