Last school year, 15 states and US Virgin Islands used Lexile and Quantile measures to support student learning. And in the 2018-2019 school year, that number is expected to double as more than half the nation are projected to report Lexile and Quantile measurements from their state assessment systems. These frameworks place both students and instructional materials on the same developmental scale to match the learner with appropriate math and reading resources at each student’s ability level. The increase in state adoption of Lexile and Quantile measures is due to several factors including new tools and resources to support students form the level of beginning readers all the way through to planning for college and careers.
