If ever there was a Tech & Learning issue that proves our rule— “It’s not about the technology, but the people who use it”—this would be it. First, in our cover story, we induct our fifth class of Most Influential in Edtech honorees. From corporate muckity-mucks to industry insiders and policy wonks, with a few visionaries for good measure, we identify the people who will have the biggest effect on the use of technology in education this year (whether you like it or not).
It also gives me great pleasure to announce the 2014 Tech & Learning Leaders of the Year, which celebrates the best practices of our extended community. It wasn’t easy. The winners were chosen from a pool of almost 250 excellent entries. When making the final cut, the editors considered a candidate’s zeal for technology and ability to inspire others. The winners will be feted at an awards ceremony this month at the big ISTE show in Atlanta.
Finally, I’d like to introduce a new column called Tech Forum Conversations, in which the magazine spotlights excerpts from our nationwide face-to-face professional development workshops. It will give you a taste of the insightful sessions and speakers put together by our events coordinators Judy Salpeter and Diana Milbert. Need more? You can watch the entire sessions, which are archived on our Livestream channel (www. livestream.com/techlearning). But to get the full effect, nothing beats being there in person. Look for us in New York and Texas this fall.
