Jomo W. Mutegi is executive director of Sankoré Institute, a nonprofit science and education research organization. Sankoré seeks to develop the intellectual infrastructure in African and African-American communities through its focus on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The institute concentrates on research and development, education, and application and policy. Mutegi’s research explores the worldview of students and student-teacher interaction as factors that determine future career choice. He received the Outstanding Junior Scholar award and, in 2003, the United States Early Career Researcher award.

Learning Point Associates, a nonprofit education research and consulting organization, has been awarded a five-year contract for Charter School Research and Technical Assistance by the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Innovation and Improvement. 

The ProjectoWrite2/W

The ProjectoWrite2/W (www.boxlight.com) emulates an interactive-whiteboard experience in a stand-alone and portable unit. It features a short-throw lens that allows for a 60-inch surface from 48 inches back and an 80-inch surface from only 64 inches back. In addition to having the built-in interactive-whiteboard technology, the Projecto- Write2/W is a fully functional LCD projector featuring 3,000 lumens with XGA resolution. Users can write on the screen with a “light pen” or stylus. A keyboard can be pulled up for normal keyboard functions; pen color and line thickness can be selected, and any notes taken can be saved as image files for future use.
