Brain Parade

Brain Parade, a developer of learning solutions for children with special needs, has released See.Touch.Learn. (Site Edition). The See.Touch. Learn visual learning iPad app is available for private implementation in classroom, school, and district settings. The package provides training sessions to educators and enables them to share custom content with teaching aides, therapists, and parents in their communities. The Site Edition offers the option to create private communities where teachers can share individualized, custom lessons with others involved in the child’s education plan.

Califone 1206i Jackbox

Califone International, Inc. has launched the 1206i Jackbox for iPhone and iPod. The new six-position Jackbox features a docking station and enables up to six students to simultaneously listen to lesson content without disrupting others. This privacy feature facilitates differentiated learning, literacy exercises, read-alongs, and language learning applications. The 1206i Jackbox also allows teachers to maximize the use of existing classroom technology to captivate and motivate students. The system distributes headphone audio through standard 3.5 mm plug. Through the Apple 30-pin part on the back of the Jackbox dock, users can connect easily to a computer’s USB port.

Classroom Advantage

Classroom Advantage, an instructional tool aligned to the Common Core State Standards, empowers teachers to deliver reading and language arts lessons using interactive whiteboards. Ideal for students in PreK – 2nd grade, RTI, ELL, and Special Education students, Classroom Advantage provides a comprehensive curriculum solution with over 4,800 activities.

Connected Science System

Vernier Software and Technology has created the Connected Science System, a networked collection of technology products that expands the ability to use data collected with LabQuest 2. With the Connected Science System and the builtin, wireless connectivity of the LabQuest 2, STEM educators and students can share and analyze data using mobile devices. The Connected Science System encompasses three major features, Graphical Analysis for iPad, Vernier Data Share, and LabQuest Viewer, all of which support a collaborative learning environment.

eChalk Personal Dashboard

eChalk launched its new Personal Dashboard, which lets users interact with and prioritize Web-based information through a drag-and-drop interface featuring customizable, movable tiles. The new management tool saves users time by reducing “information sprawl,” enabling single-click access to favorite content and leveraging eChalk’s Mosaic technology to deliver personalized communication and content. eChalk will roll out the Personal Dashboard throughout the summer.


Epson recently released the new BrightLink 475Wi, 480Wi, and 485Wi ultra-short, throw projectors. All three models feature built-in, annotation technology that allows teachers and students to instantly interact directly with a projected image from a variety of devices beyond PCs, including tablets, Blu-ray players, VCRs, document cameras, and more. With the new, ultra-short, throw BrightLink 475Wi, 480Wi, and 485Wi models, teachers are free to connect existing multimedia devices already in their classroom. The company also released three new, short-throw, BrightLink projectors, the 425Wi, 430i, and 435Wi, which come with a wall mount and two interactive pens.


Lightspeed Technologies, a provider of classroom audio solutions, has released the Flexcat small-group instruction system to help teachers differentiate their classroom instruction. Flexcat provides a flexible, group audio system with a headset for the teacher and simple tabletop speakers/mics for each student group. The tabletop speakers/mics are battery operated and wireless.


Common Sense Media, a national non-profit, has introduced Graphite—a free, web-based service to help teachers improve the effectiveness of technology in the K-12 classroom. Teachers can use Graphite to discover, share, and use the highest quality, most relevant digital learning products that have been reviewed and rated for their learning potential. Products are evaluated across a range of core subjects and deeper learning skills. Ratings and reviews are bolstered by Graphite’s community of educators and include notes on how to use each resource.


Farmington Municipal Schools in New Mexico are using GuideK12, a web-based, geovisual, analytic software solution that enables data analysis for districts. District leaders sought out an application to save them time and resources to support their district’s current and future planning needs. GuideK12 allows administrative teams to have access to their data with a web-based tool. Now, the Farmington schools can directly link student and household information which saves time and money while increasing transparency for everything from boundary planning to program resource allocation to student performance analysis.

Hoosier Family of Readers and myON

Indiana’s Superintendent of Public Instruction, Glenda Ritz, recently kicked off the state’s family-focused literacy initiative, “Hoosier Family of Readers.” Students will be asked to identify their family of readers—family, friends, and other key people who will encourage and share in their reading experiences. The initiative includes access to myON, a cloud-based, digital collection of thousands of enhanced digital books. The e-books include multimedia support, an embedded dictionary, and naturally recorded audio. Students also have access to a safe, social network where they can read, rate, review, and recommend books to classmates.

HP ProBook 440 G0

The HP ProBook 440 G0 is up to 36% thinner and 18% lighter than previous generation notebooks. It includes a security suite designed into the hardware, BIOS, and software, to encrypt and proactively protect your data, as well as the HP 3D DriveGuard which senses sudden movement and protecting the hard drive. The display ranges in size from 13.3 inches to 17.3 inches. The 400 Series Notebooks will be available in May 2013 starting at $499.

HP ProDesk 600 G1 TWR/HP ProOne 600 G1 21.5” nt-AiO

The HP ProOne 600 G1 AiO is a cost-effective, enterprise-class all-in-one, combining a space-saving form factor with powerful and secure PC performance. The HP ProOne and ProDesk 600 series feature AiO and desktop PCs with up-to-date designs and the latest 4th-generation Intel Core processors. The series provides users with Windows 8 experience, HP Client Security protocols, rich audio and video features, and three video output ports.

Pricing and availability for the ProOne and ProDesk 600 Series products are not yet available.

HP Catalyst

HP has launched the HP Catalyst Academy, which is designed to accelerate STEMx education, transform teaching practices, and close the global skills gap. In June, the HP Catalyst Academy will offer its first set of online mini-courses, covering a wide range of topics such as digital fabrication, computational thinking, remote labs, game design, and social media. Participants will learn how to work with students to develop mobile applications that solve real-world problems by being matched online with professional designers and developers.

Intel will be hosting free one-hour sessions that dive into hot topics focused on impactful uses of technology (www.k12blueprint.com/intelatiste). Invent To Learn: Making, Tinkering, and Engineering in the Classroom

In a new book, Invent To Learn: Making, Tinkering, and Engineering in the Classroom, Sylvia Martinez and Gary Stager capture the excitement of the maker movement and share the educational case for bringing making, tinkering, and engineering to every classroom. Invent To Learn is the first book to introduce this phenomenon to educators and situate the lessons of the maker community in an educational context. The book explores new technologies, places them in a historical context, and advises educators on how to create rich learning adventures in their classrooms.

i-Ready Diagnostic & Instruction

This August, Curriculum Associates’ i-Ready Diagnostic and Instruction will include monthly Progress Monitoring assessments for grades K-8 and will expand diagnostic assessments through grade 12. These additions will increase the functionality of the online program that helps educators identify students’ strengths and weaknesses and tailor instruction accordingly. The new high school diagnostic items will cover reading and mathematics. The new assessment items feature an extensive use of compare and contrast and include a range of multimedia items to reflect the increased rigor of the Common Core standards at the high school level.

Leading Edge Certification for the Digital Educator

Leading Edge Certification, a national alliance of nonprofits, universities, and educational agencies, announced the launch of its third certification: Leading Edge Certification for the Digital Educator. Leading Edge Certification for the Digital Educator is geared toward classroom teachers and is based on the National Education Technology Plan, Common Core State Standards, and the National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers (NETS-T). LEC Digital Educator consists of eight modules taught in a combination of synchronous and asynchronous trainings. Upon completion of LEC Digital Educator Certification, educators will be able to identify, define and put into practice what it means to be an effective Digital Educator.

Wanderful interactive storybooks

Wanderful interactive storybooks engage young readers to explore words and language through playful interactivity. Originally published as Living Books by Broderbund Software, each of these award winning multi-language apps are filled with animation, music, and sounds to provide hours of entertainment and foster reading skills for early learners age 2-8. Wanderful apps are available for iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch, Mac OSX computers, and Android tablets/phones. Wanderful interactive storybooks is exhibiting in the ISTE Start-up Pavilion on the exhibit floor.


The LearnPad is a “Purpose Built for Education” tablet solution. The LearnPad comes “out of the box” ready for use in schools and classrooms anywhere. The LearnPad solution includes three components that allow any teacher or school to safely deliver unlimited, digital curriculum, and instruction anywhere – the LearnPad tablet; the LearnPad cloud-based management portal; and the LearnPad content store.

My Big Campus Redesign

My Big Campus introduced a redesign that makes the learning platform even easier to access, share, organize, and store resources. As part of the redesign, My Big Campus users are now greeted with a new homepage, featuring a simplified sign-in process and specific site information tabs for students, teachers, parents, IT, and school administrators. The library now houses not only filtered and approved YouTube videos, Web sites, learning objects, and shared files, but also includes published lesson “Bundles” and Schoolwork assignments and assessments. The all-new Drive replaces Your Stuff to provide the My Big Campus community with a folder system organization of all resources added to the site. Teachers and students now look in one place for everything they created or added to My Big Campus.


Insight Education Group has announced myCore, a cloud-based, Common Core solution that offers teachers on-demand support in creating rigorous, engaging, standards-aligned lessons. “Conversations” between teachers and instructional coaches are stored in a Facebook-type e-mail system for easy review and tracking. Teachers can analyze standards through a color-coding tool and use the built-in coaching tool whenever they need extra support.

In addition to coaching, myCore offers sample lessons in both ELA and math, with plans to offer a full year of units and lessons for grades K-6 by the upcoming school year.

NetSupport School 11.20

NetSupport has released NetSupport School version 11.20, the latest update to its classroom management solution. Teachers and technicians now have the capability to interact with and control student machines that are running the Windows 8 start screen (Metro). This includes the ability to manage and control the use of applications on the desktop and apps on the Windows 8 start screen. Internet monitoring and control is also provided to manage students while they are using the Internet Explorer app on the Windows start screen. This feature also allows administrators to enable a search engine safe search mode and modify approved and blocked URL lists. Version 11.20 also extends NetSupport School’s support for students using Google Chrome OS Chromebooks.

OKI Data Americas

OKI Data Americas will demonstrate the company’s new single function and MFPs, banner printing capabilities, wireless printing options utilizing tablets, the Remark Test Grading solution, and PaperCut MF print job accounting and management software. In addition, OKI will also demonstrate MotionPrint— a solution that brings together mobile printing technology and print server devices allowing users to print documents and files from any mobile device to a compatible OKI printer or MFP.

Penda Learning

Penda Learning, a STEM standards mastery tool for grades 4-10, is now fully aligned to the new NGSS standards. Additionally, the company has added a curriculum pacing service. Pacing Assistant Service (PAS) helps teachers manage and utilize data to drive instruction to ensure that students are attaining proficiency in the new standards.

Read&Write Gold 11

Texthelp Inc. has released an updated version of Read&Write Gold for PC, a customizable toolbar that integrates with common Windows applications and provides users of all ages and abilities with the support tools they need to be independent learners. This toolbar is especially helpful for students who are English Language Learners and students who have reading,writing, and learning difficulties. New features include new text-to-speech voices, and support for Chrome, Firefox, and Google Docs.

Safe School Helpline

One Call Now has launched its latest, anti-bullying service, the Safe School Helpline, for students, parents, and educators. Developed with valuable input from school administrators, the Safe School Helpline is the only student anonymous hotline service that also includes direct and confidential 24/7 access to a trained staff of crisis counselors. The Safe School Helpline service also includes full transcripts of incident reports, emergency response protocols, and awareness collateral.

Samsung School

Samsung has announced the availability of the Samsung School solution, an integrated technology platform combining the latest tablet and e-board technology. Following classroom pilots in 20 countries globally, Samsung School packages are now available for school districts looking to create a dynamic 1:1 learning environment.

Super Duper Learning

Super Duper Publications’ Super Duper Learning allows PreK-8 students to access online systematic instruction in four basic preliteracy concepts, using the HearBuilder Software Series content, from any computer. The package comes with progress monitoring reports to track student usage, progress, and results. Also, new Super Duper Learning apps allow students to access HearBuilder activities on an iPad while uploading their progress onto Super Duper Learning.

SunGard eSchoolPLUS 3.0

SunGard K-12 Education has released a new version of its student information system, eSchoolPLUS. eSchoolPLUS 3.0 features a completely redesigned Teacher Access Center that allows teachers to quickly access information and processes they need and helps them communicate efficiently with parents and school administrators. The software solution’s gradebook is customizable and provides tools for rapidly adding new assignments, entering scores, and extracting grades.

StraightAce Learning

Benesse America has launched StraightAce Learning, a digital learning system designed specifically for middle school students. The cloudbased software focuses on math and English concepts, resulting in an interactive, multi-platform learning tool that is fully aligned with Common Core state standards. The learning system prepares students for high school and post-secondary success. It also saves progress across all web-connected devices. Additionally, the company has launched StraightAce English: Writing, which enhances students’ ability to hone their composition skills. This series focuses on skills such as writing introductions and conclusions, forming and supporting a thesis, editing, revising, and researching.

Streaming Plus

Discovery Education announces significant enhancements to its popular Discovery Education Streaming Plus platform, now featuring hundreds of model lessons, performance tasks and instructional exemplars supporting both novice and experienced educators in implementing Common Core State Standards. Discovery Education Streaming Plus, which provides an enriched curriculum offering of more than 155,000 dynamic resources, supports all subject areas and multi-modal learning styles.

Teachscape Pano Camera System

Teachscape’s new Pano Camera System features a 200-degree, panoramic video camera, an omnidirectional microphone, an iPod Touch, and a mobile app. This comprehensive system allows users to capture and upload HD video and audio in real time for classroom observation, evaluation, lesson study, and self-reflection. It also captures and securely shares videos for collaboration, feedback, and best practice review.

Triton Data Collection System

Turning Technologies will exhibit the full public availability of the Triton Data Collection System. Triton is a simple data collection system comprised of three components: Triton Web, Triton Receiver with Proctor Application, and the ResponseCard NXT clicker. Utilizing current test booklets, participants enter and submit test answers via ResponseCard NXT clicker. The Proctor Application is stored on a single, USB Triton Receiver for simple plug and play technology. Collected data is encrypted, backed up and stored in three locations, including a central administration Triton Web portal that manages all testing elements.


ePals Corporation announced the launch of Toolsforschool.com, a global pre-K-12 marketplace where educators can buy, sell, and share digital curricular materials for 21st century learning across all subjects and in multiple languages. ePals’ Toolsforschool will comprise vetted education content from both teacher-contributors and ePals’ partner publishers and organizations, available through a series of online “storefronts.” As with the ePals community, there are never membership fees and content is moderated for meaningful projects, activities, and resources.

webNetwork and LanSchool
