This webinar focuses on how audio books meet three specific ELA standards of the Common Core and raise reading scores:
- The Common Core supports listening skills' important role in K-5 literacy. Children's listening comprehension outpaces reading comprehension until middle school. Audio books allow children to experience written language without the burden of decoding.
- The Common Core underscores the importance of students acquiring a rich and diverse vocabulary. Audio books provide students with exposure to a variety of words in context, with proper pronunciation and fluency.
- The Common Core emphasizes the complexity of text. Audio books help students stretch their reading ability and allow them to listen and understand 2 full grade levels above their current reading level.
Join us as teacher librarians Shannon McClintock Miller and Cathy Potter share their advocacy and success with Tales2Go, a Netflix like service that streams thousands of appropriate audio book titles for use in schools.
