Watch a brief video from National Geographic which celebrates the anniversary of Admiral Richard Byrd’s historic flight over the South Pole on November 29, 1929. He and his crew made aviation history as Byrd navigated over the largely unmapped continent of Antarctica. The video shows how the men survived the extreme weather by wearing clothing used by natives in the Arctic. After this historic flight, Byrd returned four more times to explore and map Antarctica.
