Vernier Software & Technology Wins a Tech & Learning ISTE 2017 Best of Show Award

Judges recognize Pivot Interactives for its promise to bring real-world science into the classroom.

BEAVERTON, Oregon, July 13, 2017 — Pivot Interactives was named a winner of Tech & Learning’s ISTE 2017 Best of Show Awards for showing the greatest promise in the classroom. Distributed exclusively by Vernier Software & Technology, Pivot Interactives helps high school and college students learn key physics concepts through interactive videos of real scientific phenomena. These classroom-ready, student-driven, open-ended investigations provide teachers with experiments that would otherwise be unsafe, impractical, or time consuming to set up for hands-on student instruction.

“Unlike animated simulations, Pivot Interactives provides high-resolution videos that incorporate authentic experiences and intuitive measurement tools to help students learn physics concepts and practice key science skills,” said John Wheeler, CEO of Vernier Software & Technology. “It is a great honor for this technology to be recognized for the impact it’ll have in STEM classrooms as part of the teaching and learning process.”

The Tech & Learning ISTE 2017 Best of Show Award winners are chosen by Tech & Learning advisors who evaluate the potential of products being showcased by participating companies. The judges rate their impressions on a sliding scale and then meet to decide on which technologies deserve the "amazing" moniker. A total of 59 products, including Pivot Interactives, were recognized.

The Pivot Interactives cloud-based web app can be accessed 24/7 using any web-connected device, including Chromebook™ and iPad®. The videos incorporate time-lapse, slow-motion, multi-camera-angle, and drone videography and cover real events, such as a sprinting Olympian, a rocket launch, and a roller coaster in motion. The Interactives allow students to vary experimental parameters, such as the mass of the object or the frequency of a wave, and to see the experiment again with the changed parameters. Students can also take measurements using embedded rulers, protractors, and stopwatches, and then graph that data within the online app.
