Alternate Assessment Apps for Fifth Grade

Fifth grade students are only required to be tested in ELA and math.

ELA

  • Required Component 1—Key Idea: Reading

Choice Component 2—Standard 2: Students will read, write, listen, and speak for literary response and expression.

The student will attend to or read familiar nonfiction and/or fiction books. To document, take sequenced, captioned, and dated photographs of the student reading or attending to familiar nonfiction and/or fiction books. If you have the iPad 2, you only need to use your photo app- make sure you take at least 3 pictures on two different dates.Note:You must make sure you have the parental permission for photographs for this app!

  • Required Component 2—Key Idea: Listening

Choice Component 1—Standard 1: Students will read, write, listen, and speak for information and understanding. The student will distinguish between main ideas and supporting details collected from an informational text.

The student work product is a spider graphic organizer that includes the main ideas in the middle and the supporting details that go with the main idea as offshoots. This app is an adaptation to the “spider” graph, but can be used to apply main idea and supporting details.

Math

  • Required Component 1—Strand: Number Sense and Operations

Choice Component 1—Band: Number Systems

The student will compare three or more decimals to the nearest tenth by indicating a requested order or indicating which decimal in a set is the greatest (or least). To document, take sequenced, captioned, and dated photographs of the student ordering three decimal items from least to greatest (or greatest to least).

  • Required Component 1—Strand: Number Sense and Operations

Choice Component 2—Band: Operations

The student will compare sets of figures and answer whether they are congruent or not congruent. The student work product comprises sets of figures marked yes or no next to indicate whether they are congruent or not.

Adobe Ideas ($5.99) Acts as a white board. Teacher can make figures; students can either write yes or no or use eye gaze to answer the question.
