Today's Newsletter: Carl Hooker Presents Keynote & EdTech Poetry Slam at T&L Live Boston

Guest post by Carl Hooker, Director of Innovation & Digital Learning in the Eanes Independent School District: Have you ever been a part of or witnessed a dysfunctional relationship? You know the type. The two sides don’t communicate well. There are all sorts of passive-aggressive comments being shot across the room at each other. It makes everyone else in the room uncomfortable. For the last 8 years, I have been a “marriage counselor” of sorts for these dysfunctional relationships. These are not personal relationships mind you. I’m talking about the relationship between IT and Curriculum. “We want this website opened up!” vs. “What do you mean I have to upload all these student records to this textbook company?!” The fight goes on and on.

[STRATEGIES TO PLAN A DISTRICT DIGITAL LEARNING DAY]

Later this month (April 27) at Boston at Tech & Learning Tech Live, I’ll get to break out the couch and really hash out these problems in a “Festivus-Airing-Of-Grievances” style interactive Keynote to kick-off the event. Bring your popcorn and your tissues for what plans to be a spirited conversation.

Then, after things have simmered down and we’ve come to our senses, we’ll read each other some poetry. Well, not quite. During the middle of the event, I’ll be MCing as 6 brave local school leaders get up on stage to participate in an EdTech Poetry Slam. They’ll be performing for your votes and “snaps” as they attempt to take home the title of “Greatest EdTech Poet” in New England.
