Today's Newsletter: Schools Search for Security Tech

The Tech&Learning newsfeeds this month pack a number of stories about system-wide tech initiatives aimed at improving security for when students return to school this fall. Kenosha Unified School District (Wis.) is installing gunshot detection technology. If the sensors hear a gunshot, the system instantly alerts police. Officers will then be able to get into the school’s security camera system. Schools in Lockport, NY are attempting to upgrade their security system with software that uses facial recognition: "We're going to be able to recognize unwanted individuals, sex offenders, expelled students” said Tony Olivo, a security consultant with who works with school districts on safety plans. Both projects are being funded from state grants. Will they work? I guess we need to try anything and everything.
