Discovery Education and Wilkes University today announced an expansion of their 11-year partnership. In the latest phase of this collaboration, Discovery Education and Wilkes University have launched a new 12-credit program designed to prepare educators to incorporate STEM strategies into their instructional practice.

The STEM Letter of Endorsement program emphasizes methods through which educators can create engaging STEM lessons that build the analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills students need for success in any career or educational path. 

The program is conducted entirely online and courses are offered in accelerated seven-week sessions, allowing completion in eight months. Access to Discovery Education’s full suite of services, including Discovery Education Streaming Plus and theDiscovery Education Techbook series, are included in the tuition.

THE NEW YORK ACADEMY OF SCIENCES ANNOUNCES NEW STEM EDUCATION CERTIFICATION PROGRAM

A new framework for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education that promotes 21st-century skills development was announced by the New York Academy of Sciences today. The Global STEM Alliance (GSA) STEM Education Framework is based on the latest learning science and education research.  It was developed by the New York Academy of Sciences, a 200-year-old institution dedicated to advancing scientific research, education, and policy, and SRI Education, a division of SRI International and an established leader in STEM education research, instructional design, implementation, and evaluation.

Just ask students at Audubon Elementary School in Pennsylvania’s Methacton School District. Some days they are engineers learning to build the tallest tower. Or they might be writing computer code on a visit to the school library.  Or learning to use a 3D printer that seems like something out of the latest Star Wars movie. Except it’s not a movie. It’s happening right now, in their school.
