Parchment Releases 2nd Annual ‘Student Choice College Rankings’

Today, education credentials data pioneer Parchment Inc. releases its 2013 Student Choice College Rankings, the only college rankings system that compares higher education institutions based on actual acceptance and enrollment data. While other rankings systems are based on subjective factors or self-reported data, Parchment ranks colleges and universities based solely on the decisions of hundreds of thousands of students who were admitted to multiple colleges and ultimately chose one to attend, ultimately revealing their preferences. The results rank colleges from most likely to be chosen to least likely to be chosen, and provide a valuable resource for students to find the best fit for them. This college rankings system was first proposed by university professors after studying physicist Arpad Elo's rating system for chess players. The rankings are based on a sampling of more than 200,000 college acceptances from 2009 to 2012 with data from all 50 states, collected through the unique online tool for students to track and share official transcripts and academic data, Parchment.com.
