Rosetta Stone Inc. announced today that it has acquired education-technology company Lexia Learning Systems, Inc., whose English reading products are used in over 14,000 schools and by more than one million students online, for $22.5 million in cash.

Rosetta Stone Inc. announced today that it has acquired education-technology company Lexia Learning Systems, Inc., whose English reading products are used in over 14,000 schools and by more than one million students online, for $22.5 million in cash. The company plans to leverage Lexia’s expertise in children’s reading to deepen its engagement with schools and take its digital literacy solutions to young learners in the consumer market, both in the United States and internationally.

Earlier this month, Lexia introduced Lexia Reading Core5™, designed to prepare pre-K–Grade 5 students for the Common Core State Standards. Lexia Reading Core5 delivers adaptive instruction for students of all abilities, adjusting each child’s learning path in real-time.

Lexia Learning Receives $500,000 Grant to Fund the Integration of New Writing Solution into Lexia Reading Core5 Program

Designed for the ELA Common Core State Standards for Writing, the Comprehensive  System will include Writing Instruction, Digital Editing, and Progress Monitoring BOSTON — Aug. 13, 2013 — Lexia Learning®, a Rosetta Stone® (NYSE:RST) company, has won a $500,000 grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation’s Literacy Courseware Challenge to support the creation and testing of a writing component that will be added to the newly released Lexia Reading Core5™ program. Scheduled for Beta release in the fall of 2014, the proposed Lexia Reading Core5 Writing Solution™ will address the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for writing and support writing instruction for students in grades four and five who are performing on or below their grade level as well as remedial students in grades six through eight performing below a fifth-grade level.
