Today's Newsletter: Student Hackers Up Their Game

One disturbing upward trend in the Tech&Learning newsfeeds are stories about school district networks being hacked. Swedesboro-Woolwich School District, which is home to four elementary schools in Gloucester County, New Jersey, was held hostage last month after receiving a ransom message asking for 500 bitcoins, which is about $125,000. A senior at Monroe High School in Michigan was suspended last week for intentionally disrupting district Internet service. And state officials in Florida revealed that attacks on systems delayed online testing for some eighth-, ninth- and 10th-graders in March. Now the idea of student hackers has been legend since the movie War Games in 1983. But is the reality something more prevalent sinister now? —Kevin Hogan, Content Director
